Adults 'bought booze for children' as Portobello Beach was rammed with party-goers

Police in Edinburgh have confirmed that two adults have been charged with buying underage drinkers alcohol in Leith and Portobello over the weekend.

It comes as families and kids, sunbathers and even groups of teenagers crammed on to Portobello Beach as temperatures soared to highs of 28 degrees on Friday.

Cops were called to a 'large disturbance' at the beach which resulted in two teens aged 16 and 17 being arrested.

Police also confirmed that multiple groups were dispersed and quantities of alcohol were surrendered and disposed of at Portobello Beach over the weekend.

Edinburgh Police warned that "disruptive and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated" and now they have revealed that an additional two adults have been charged with trying to buy booze fro underagers this weekend.

In a statement, Edinburgh Police said: "Over the weekend two adults were charged with purchasing alcohol for persons under 18 in the Leith and Portobello areas.

"Supplying children with alcohol can lead to a criminal conviction and increases antisocial behaviour in the area."
