Adult-only crazy golf bar planned for former Tales of Robin Hood building

An adult-only crazy golf venue could transform part of a city building which has been empty for more than 10 years.

The new facility would be based in the former Tales of Robin Hood attraction in Maid Marian Way and plans include a bar.

Billy Allingham, 48, who is behind the project, expects up to 25 jobs could be created by the enterprise.

He said: "We're hoping to put one nine-hole and one 18-hole crazy golf course in and four interactive dartboards."

He explained arcade games and pool tables could also form part of the offer.

Describing the location as a "great site", he added: "We think Nottingham's a superb place to open that."

Mr Allingham, the owner of Leicester bowling alley East Street Lanes, added the new venue was hoped "to be open for June-July".

The Nottingham venue is also likely to be called Caddyshackers, with a venue of the same name also already in Leicester.

Mr Allingham said the venue would be "great for team nights out", adding: "If some of you drink alcohol and some of you don't drink alcohol it doesn't matter - because actually there's something else to take your focus off it."

Plans have been submitted to Nottingham City Council to change the use of the building.

People in the area welcomed the news.

Charlie Glinsman, 21, of Radford, said: "It’ll be nice to see something new coming into the city.”

Passerby Adam Drury, 26, said: "It definitely makes sense to fill something that would be empty otherwise.

“It makes the city look nicer if there’s no empty buildings.

"I think it brings an area down a bit when there’s shops boarded up or loads of empty space so I’d certainly welcome it.”

And Callum Collin, 32, added: “I’ve not lived here long enough to remember the Robin Hood place but it’s got to make sense to use a vacant building.

"If it generates even one job that has to be a good thing so it sounds exciting.”

The former Tales of Robin Hood featured a chairlift through a re-creation of Medieval Nottingham and Sherwood Forest.

It closed as a result of rent arrears having opened in 1989.

Plans had previously been tabled to open a gym at the site.
