Adult in-patient visiting suspended at Nottinghamshire hospitals - including the King's Mill

Sherwood Forest Hospitals have suspended adult in-patient visiting due to a rising level of covid infections.

The NHS trust, which runs King's Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital and Mansfield Community Hospital, announced that the visits would be postponed from Saturday, January 1.

It said on its website: "Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases within our community we are making the decision to suspend adult in-patient visiting from 1 January 2022 to help protect our vulnerable patients.

"We have not taken this decision lightly and we have been trying to maintain some visiting because we realise how important this is to patients and relatives, however the increase in cases does now pose a greater risk of our patients acquiring the virus and we need to act to protect them."

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) last week issued a similar statement, confirming routine visits would be put on hold for at least two weeks.

Like NUH, however, Sherwood Forest has made exceptions for visiting patients who are end of life, under 18, require a designated carer, or have significant needs such as mental health and dementia.

For maternity appointments it has also asked people to only have one person accompany them if they feel that it is essential.
