Adrien Rabiot rejects Liverpool transfer after reaching 'verbal agreement' with rivals

Adrien Rabiot reportedly has a verbal agreement in place to join Real Madrid .

Rabiot, 24, is a free agent this summer after failing to sign a contract extension with PSG.

He hasn't featured since the start of December and has since been suspended for his antics after the Champions League defeat to Manchester United .

Liverpool and Arsenal have been credited with an interest although Barcelona appeared to be in pole position before PSG criticised the conduct of the La Liga champions.

That put Real Madrid on alert and reports in France suggest a move is in place.

Zinedine Zidane is a long-term admirer of Rabiot and considered taking him to the Bernabeu before his departure last summer.

Rabiot is unsurprisingly eager to play under his countryman and Canal+ suggests he has a reached a verbal agreement that will see him move to Madrid on a free transfer.

Zidane is keen to breathe fresh life into an ageing midfield this summer and sees Rabiot as the ideal fit.

Luka Modric turns 34 in September and could be offered a lucrative move elsewhere while Matteo Kovacic has no long-term future at the Bernabeu.

Real are also interested in signing Manchester United's Paul Pogba, with Zidane launching a charm offensive to land him last week.

Pogba had previously admitted a move to the Bernabeu would be a "dream" and Zidane did little to suggest Real would not be interested.

“I really like Pogba and you know that. I know him very well," Zidane said in his press conference.

"He’s a different kind of player and he can provide many things because of his skills. He knows how to attack and defend.

"However, he’s not my player. He plays for United and we have to respect that. He’s always said that he likes Madrid."
