Adrian set to join Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp closes in on former West Ham goalkeeper on free transfer

Liverpool are set to sign former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian to replace the departing Simon Mignolet.

After sanctioning Mignolet's move to Club Brugge following Sunday's Community Shield defeat to Manchester City, the Reds have moved quickly in the market to source a new back-up between the sticks.

And they are now close to agreeing a deal that will see Adrian join on a free transfer.

The Spaniard ended a six-year stay in east London this summer following the expiry of his contract, and had been linked with a return to his homeland.

However, he has instead opted for a new challenge at Anfield, where he will support first-choice shot-stopper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool had previously insisted that they were keen to retain Mignolet's services this summer despite the player's preference for regular football.

But Club Brugge's offer, which could be worth up to €9m, was considered too good to turn down by sporting director Michael Edwards.

The Reds have now moved to ensure that deal can be completed by finding a new man between the sticks in Adrian.
