Adrian's defiant message to Liverpool fans after Reds' Champions League exit

Adrian has vowed Liverpool will bounce back stronger after their Champions League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Reds had looked set to progress to the quarter-finals after goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino saw them take a 2-0 lead early in extra-time at Anfield.

However, a poor clearance from Liverpool 's second-choice goalkeeper helped set up Atletico's first goal of the night as Marcos Llorente curled home into the bottom corner to hand the Spaniards a vital away goal to swing the tide in their favour.

A second goal from Llorente and an Alvaro Morata breakaway effort at the end of each half of extra-time saw Diego Simeone's side win 3-2 on the night to clinch a 4-2 aggregate win.

And disappointed to see Liverpool's reign as European champions come to an end, Adrian took to Twitter to address fans after the game as attentions quickly turned back to clinching the Premier League title.

"Very sad and disappointed for the result tonight, clearly not what we were expecting," he admitted. "Thanks to all the fans for the support, we still have big objectives ahead this season. LFC always comes back."

Adrian is set to continue in goal in place of the injury Alisson when Liverpool return to action for the Merseyside derby away at Everton on Monday night.
