Adrian Peterson was Pro Football Focus’ second-best back in NFC East

It isn’t hard to see why the Washington Redskins want Adrian Peterson back under contract this offseason.

Peterson, 33 years old or not, carried the Redskins through tough times last season on the way to a 1,000-yard campaign.

And it wasn’t a fluke — at Pro Football Focus, he graded above Ezekiel Elliott in terms of total performance and only behind Saquon Barkley:

Not bad for an aging running back in a bad situation.

While the Redskins have Derrius Guice coming back from injury next season, the staff figures to want Peterson back as a complement. After the Alex Smith injury, it is clear the team might have to rely on the running game even more than anticipated.

If Peterson can keep this level of play up, the Redskins could be hard to stop.
