Adrian Peterson to have MRI on injured ankle

It turns out Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson injured his ankle while fumbling over the weekend during the loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan confirmed Peterson will undergo an MRI on the ankle, according to the Washington Post’s Les Carpenter.

That’s a big problem for a Redskins offense tasked with a short turnaround for a Thursday game against the Minnesota Vikings. Guys like Chris Thompson are already banged up, too.

Peterson managed 81 yards on 20 carries against the 49ers for a 4.1 average but had the lost fumble.

If Peterson can’t go Thursday, that leaves the Redskins with a tandem of Wendell Smallwood and Craig Reynolds, provided Thompson can’t get back.
