Adrian Peterson says he held back tears when Vikings fans gave him an ovation

It was always bound to be an emotional return for Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson when he went back to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. It wasn’t the first time he had gone back to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, where he spent most of his career, but after giving so much of himself in that time, it’s still something that touches him to his core. He even said after the game that he caught himself singing the “Skol” chant a few times during the game.

After running for 76 yards on 14 carries, Peterson said he had to hold back tears when the Minnesota crowd gave him a standing ovation at the two-minute warning. During the game, Peterson passed both Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson for No. 6 on the NFL’s all-time rushing list.

Unfortunately, the night couldn’t end with a victory for Peterson and his team, but at least he was shown the love that the Vikings fan base still has for one of their all-time greats.
