Adrian Peterson is understandably thrilled about a more run-based approach

A year ago, Adrian Peterson arrived late with the Washington Redskins and dropped some jaws on his way to a 1,000-yard campaign and seven touchdowns.

This year…things aren’t as rosy. He’s hardly topped 100 yards all season and averages just 2.7 yards.

And yet, perhaps nobody is happier about the change to Bill Callahan as head coach.

“You look at the first four weeks that I’ve played and it’s like, 11, 12, 10, 7 carries, it’s like the total opposite from what we did last year,” Peterson said, according to Sam Marsdale of 247 Sports. “Obviously something isn’t working so there needs to be some type of change. So, it feels good to have this change. It’s what it’s going to take for us to get going as an offense…”

Callahan has stressed a major recommitment to the run and has made it clear he thinks team success rests on the ability to get Peterson back in a rhythm.

Call it good timing — the Redskins can probably do just that against a poor Miami team this weekend.

Those Dolphins are 0-4, and have allowed at least 30 points in every game this season.
