Adrian Peterson is confident he’ll play on Thursday against the Vikings

Many of the storylines this week are sure to surround the quarterbacks for both the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings, as each player is facing their former team whom they left without a perfect ending. However, don’t let that cause you to overlook Adrian Peterson, as he returns to Minnesota, where he played from 2007 to 2016 before leaving as a free agent.

Coming into the game, Peterson is dealing with an ankle injury that had him in a walking boot on Tuesday, and held him out of practice early in the week. Nonetheless, AP says that he will play on Thursday against the Vikings.

“I feel pretty confident,” Peterson said, via ESPN’s John Keim. “Yesterday was rough. I didn’t really know. I woke up this morning feeling really good; the swelling had gone down tremendously. Two more days to heal and do the necessary things this training staff put me through — and the home remedies I do as well — I should be good.”

Peterson injured his ankle in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers during a play where he lost a fumble in the driving rain. According to Peterson, it was the pain he felt in his ankle that caused him to fumble the ball, rather than anything else. While this type of injury might hold AP out of a normal week, the added incentive of playing against his former team will help drive him to get back in time.

“Of course, of course it does,” he said. “If it was any other team, I’d be just as motivated, but maybe not as much. Of course, I want to play against Minnesota. I was there for 10 years; 98% of the guys on the defense, I played with those guys.”
