Adrian Peterson is blown away after passing Jim Brown on rushing TD list

Sunday’s 31-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys was riddled with minor mistakes and major frustrations, but for the Washington Redskins, there was at least one positive to come out of the game.

Early in the first quarter, running back Adrian Peterson rushed up the middle for a one-yard touchdown, giving him 107 in his career. That score pushed him ahead of Hall-of-Famer Jim Brown, allowing AP to sit alone with the 5th most rushing touchdowns in NFL history.

It’s safe to say that Peterson was moved by the achievement.

“Jim Brown is an international name,” Peterson said, via NBC Sports Washington. “To be tied with him, and then pass him is just like, ‘Wow.’ It’s humbling.”

At 34-years-old, Peterson now sits behind names like Emmitt Smith, LaDainian Tomlinson, Marcus Allen, and Walter Payton. ‘Sweet Feet’ Payton is next on the list for AP to pass, with 110 career touchdowns.

“Jim Brown is a guy I’ve always looked up to,” said Peterson. “He paved a way for our generation and all the generations after him. To be blessed to be in this position to pass him is just mind-blowing to me.”

AP knows that this record can be accredited to his offensive line and blockers as much as anyone.

“It goes to show just the gift and the ability that God has blessed me with,” Peterson said. “I’ve got to give a shoutout to my offensive line too, and the receivers — everyone that could contribute to making this record possible.”

If Peterson continues to play at a high level, he will have the opportunity to keep ascending on that list this season due to Derrius Guice’s knee surgery that will keep him sidelined until Week 8 at the very least.
