Adrian Lester and Beverley Knight set to guest star in Donmar Warehouse's Sweet Charity

Adrian Lester and Beverley Knight are among those who have signed up to guest star in Josie Rourke’s final Donmar Warehouse production.

They will take on the role of Daddy Brubeck, the enigmatic Rhythm of Life church leader, with Clive Rowe, Shaq Taylor and Le Gateau Chocolat also on board to appear in the show.

Shaq Taylor, who makes his Donmar debut in Sweet Charity, will play the role from April 6-13 with the Olivier Award-winning actor Adrian Lester in the part from April 15-27, including press night. Opera singer and drag star Le Gateau Chocolat steps in the week beginning April 29, with singer Beverley Knight taking over for the week starting May 6 and Clive Rowe playing the part from the week starting May 13.

They join a cast that includes Anne Marie-Duff and Arthur Darvill in starring roles. The musical, with hit showtunes Big Spender and If My Friends Could See Me Now, follows dance hall hostess Charity Hope Valentine who has her faith in love restored when she meets an accountant called Oscar.

Sweet Charity will be Rourke’s final production as artistic director at the Donmar, before Michael Longhurst takes over.

Sweet Charity opens on April 17 and runs until June 8.
