Adrian Lam thrilled with Liam Marshall's injury progress with Wigan Warriors winger ahead of schedule

Adrian Lam has praised Liam Marshall for his effort to overcome his ACL injury, and admitted he could return sooner than expected.

The winger suffered an ACL injury in September, which usually comes with a nine to twelve month recovery period.

That would see the 24-year-old miss the majority of the coming season, but Lam has been left thrilled with his progress and revealed his recovery appears to be ahead of schedule, which could result in him making a return as soon as next month.

That would come as a huge boost to Wigan, who have trimmed down their squad ahead of the coming season which has seen Chris Hankinson and Joe Burgess depart from their outside backs roster.

"He's been working really hard to be fair," Lam said.

"He's always the first in and last out, I'm really proud of his work since he got the injury.

"He's one of our funnier characters so important he's part of the group, he has his appeal and funny ways, but he's working hard and we're really pleased with him."

Excluding 'niggles', the Warriors otherwise have a clean bill of health heading into the season.

The question on everyone's lips is the status of Jackson Hastings and Bevan French, with the pair still not in the country ahead of the season.

When asked about the status of the pair, Lam added: "They'll be back here in the near future.

"We've been very supportive of them with the difficult times we've had, they're working hard to a programme and we look forward to welcoming them soon."
