'Adrian Karius!' Liverpool fans can't believe what ex-West Ham goalkeeper did against Atletico

From the best back-up goalkeeper in the Premier League (according to some Liverpool fans) to the player whose error sent Jurgen Klopp's side crashing out of the Champions League.

Ex-West Ham goalkeeper Adrian was caught out by Atletico Madrid at Anfield for Marcos Llorente to score a vital away goal at Anfield.

Diego Simeone's side had secured a 1-0 win in the first leg at home in Madrid to take to Merseyside.

But after Georginio Wjnaldum found an opener at Anfield, and Roberto Firmino added a second in extra-time, it seemed Liverpool were on their way through to the last eight of the Champions League.

West Ham fans protest against club's owners

Step forward Adrian - quite literally.

The former Irons 'keeper punted a poor pass out into midfield which spilled to the opposition to set up Llorente to find the goal to make it 2-1 on the night and 2-2 on aggregate.

Atletico weren't done though, and neither was Adrian.

West Ham fans admired the Spaniard's heroics at times but knew he was a goalkeeper with a gaffe in him, and again Llorente struck to send the ball past the Liverpool's back-up in goal.

Half-time in extra-time came and went with the La Liga side 2-2 on the night and ahead on aggregate by 3-2 with two away goals to boot.

Fans on social media could not believe what they were seeing.

West Ham have had their own problems between the sticks this season, especially with Lukasz Fabianski out injured.

Back up options Roberto and David Martin hardly covered themselves in much glory in the absence of the Polish shot-stopper.

Even their former goalkeeper Darren Randolph was re-signed to add quality in reserve in case the number one was ruled out again.

Liverpool found out the hard way what happened at Anfield against Atletico without their star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, available to play.
