Adrian Chiles, 53, branded a 'disgrace' for still taking his washing home to mum

Adrian Chiles was called an "effing disgrace" by his partner for still taking washing home to his mum now.

The presenter had no qualms in acknowledging his partner "had a point" for saying he should be "ashamed" of his behaviour.

He's 53 with a high-flying TV career to show off but the star admitted he was still taking his clothes home to be washed at his parents before the coronavirus pandemic.

Going to great lengths — Adrian was driving his washing 125miles from his home in Chiswick, London to his parents' home in Stourbridge, West Midlands.

Now the former One Show star confessed he's finally got round to doing his own washing and ironing in lockdown.

And in fact he said the mundane task of ironing has given him great comfort in lockdown.

The star jested the pandemic had "rescued" him and his mum's right arm.

He wrote in a column for The Guardian : "When I visited my parents, I would take bags of washed — and, indeed, unwashed — clothes for a loving maternal flattening.

"My partner pointed out that, at the age of 53, this was an effing disgrace and I ought to be ashamed of myself. She had a point. So the pandemic rescued me (and my mum's right arm) from myself."

The TV star has well and truly mastered the art of ironing.

Last week, he even ploughed through a 6ft-tall pile of shirts as well as trousers and tea towels.

He said: "Until recently, I had pressed a shirt only once. Now I have discovered that ironing helps me impose order on a chaotic world."
