Adrian Beltre put on disabled list, pushing Rangers' MLB-leading DL trips to 14

ARLINGTON, Texas _ The Texas Rangers on Wednesday extended their major-league lead in crippling injuries by putting third baseman and cleanup hitter Adrian Beltre on the 10-day disabled list because of a strained left hamstring.

The Rangers have used the disabled list 14 times, most in the majors. The New York Yankees are next with 11, one ahead of Miami and San Diego.

Beltre incurred the injury running out a hit during a loss to Oakland on Tuesday. Beltre recognized the problem and immediately headed to the training room after time was called.

This is Beltre's third stay on the DL since Opening Day 2017. He missed 62 games last season because of tightness in the right calf and a strained left hamstring.

"It's a tough blow," left-hander Cole Hamels said. "He's a big part of our offense, a big part of our defense. Just who he is and what he brings to the team, you definitely don't want to see that."

Beltre is the fourth everyday player to go on the DL. Center fielder Delino DeShields missed 20 games before being activated Sunday. Second baseman Rougned Odor (hamstring) and shortstop Elvis Andrus (elbow) remain on the DL.

"To lose the number of players that we have to injury is tough," manager Jeff Banister said. "We will continue to play and continue to play hard. Somehow, we're going to pull our way out of this and continue to play the game."

The Rangers replaced Beltre on the active roster by recalling Ryan Rua from Triple-A Round Rock. Reliever Matt Bush was sent down to Round Rock after four straight days of pitching. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at third in the series finale against Oakland.
