Adored Edinburgh shop closes for good after 50 years in the business

An Edinburgh shop has announced they will finally be closing their doors after 50 years in business.

The owners of Leatherwork issued a notice to their loyal customers this week to share the news that they have now shut down their beloved business.

An iconic staple of Lauriston Street, the yellow fronted shop in Edinburgh has stood proudly for over five decades, providing a leatherwork service for many different eras of fashion.

Owned by Sofia Urbanska and Ludwik Jasszczur, the couple explained to customers that after a long career in the shop, they have decided to take a well-earned retirement.

Speaking in their notice, they said: "After 50 years of service, it is finally time for us to retire.

"With great regret we are closing the doors of our workshop and we would like to thank you with all our hearts for being a loyal customer, a smile and a kind word."

However, the pair made sure not to leave their customers bereft of somewhere to have their leatherwork done, and passed on the beacon to another tailors in the city.

They added: "If you are looking to repair or create new leather garments, handbags or even shorten your shoe strap, we would like to recommend Tailor Design for all your leather alteration requirements.

"Thank you."
