Adorable young otter rescued by member of public after being mistaken for sleeping cat

Adorable footage shows an otter tucking into some fish after it was rescued by a member of the public.

After initially thinking it was a cat taking a nap in their garden, they soon realised it was an otter and contacted the Scottish SSPCA.

The young male otter can be seen on camera enjoying some warmth and a tucking into a good meal after his adventures.

It is suspected that he was lost due to recent flooding in Blairgowrie.

When animal rescuers got there, he was "exhausted" and "extremely lethargic".

He was fed plenty of fish, given a blanket to keep him warm and had some rest.

The young otter was then transported to the SSPCA National Wildlife Rescue Centre and will be cared for until he is ready to return to the wild.

In a statement the Scottish SSPCA said: "You ‘otter’ know!

"We were contacted by a member of the public who thought a cat was taking a nap in their garden but they soon realised it was this young male otter!

"He was exhausted and extremely lethargic. We suspect he was lost due to flooding in Blairgowrie.

"After some rest, warmth and much needed fish, he was transported to our National Wildlife Rescue Centre where he will be cared for until he is ready to return to the wild."
