She was found wandering the streets alone with a large gash to her neck - but without a voice or an owner, she couldn't tell her rescuers what had happened. Dumpling the three-year-old French bulldog was taken in by canine carers at Helping Yorkshire Poundies who nursed her back to health.
Thankfully, her traumatic start to life hasn't stopped her from shining. Charity volunteer Sarah Dobbs told the Mirror: "Dumpling is a sassy and confident little lady who knows what she wants and how to get it. She struts around like she owns the place and loves being involved in everything."

Dumpling is small for her age but staff say she has a huge personality and "cheeky" side.
She will bark at you when she wants something - which is usually food - and somehow make you instantly fall in love with her.
This little Frenchie is looking for a warm and safe place to call home with an adoptive owner who has experience of bulldogs and their quirks.
She could live with other dogs and cats but isn't suitable to live with children under the age of 12.
"One arrival with us, she did have a lot of accidents in the house, but is doing really well with her housetraining," Sarah explained.
"Dumpling needs daily walks but cannot do too much at once as her breathing isn't great."
It's likely she will need to have surgery to improve her airways in three months time - but the charity will cover the cost of this.
"She is a brilliant quirky character and will be a dream for a bulldog loving home," Sarah added.

Another dog desperate to find a forever family is Ace the nine-year-old American bulldog, who is currently in the care of Dogs Trust Basildon.
Centre manager Kelly McMaster, said: "Ace is beautiful and brilliant; he always finds a way to bring a non-stop smile to your face and has an endless supply of love to give.
"He finds kennels extremely stressful, which is why he's now living in a foster home.
"Whilst we are incredibly grateful to our foster carers, they are unable to keep Ace forever, so we are really keen to find him a permanent home, that can offer him just as much love back."
