Adorable snaps of wee 'Lavender' the smallest ever badger rescued by SSPCA

Adorable photos show the "smallest ever" badger rescued by the Scottish SPCA.

Lavender the cub arrived at the charity's rescue centre in Alloa on Valentine's Day, weighing just over 250g.

The tiny creature almost fits in the palm of a hand and requires round the clock feeding.

However, at two weeks old the youngster has now managed to double her body weight and seems to be thriving.

Staff at the centre are hand-rearing little Lavender after she was dragged out of her sett too soon.

Writing about the gorgeous new arrival, the SSPCA said: "For the past week one member of staff has been rearing the smallest badger we think we’ve ever seen at the centre, feeding around the clock

"Very early for this wee one to be out the sett, however she was dragged from her home and her family.

"We usually see badgers at centre around April and at 12 weeks or so of age once they’ve started wandering around and exploring.

"Badgers are one of our slower developers and could be up to another 10 weeks hand rearing at home till weaning.

"For now, this wee girl is taking her bottle well and has doubled her weight in a week."

The charity also urged dog walkers to keep their animals on leads around badger setts.

The photos have delighted social media users.

One woman wrote: "Aww wee soul, but at least she stands a chance of surviving being in the proper care."

Another added: "Oh my word how tiny is that.

"Should be part of Spring Watch programme to keep everyone updated on her progress. Good luck little one."

One person said: "Precious baby, how beautiful. I hope she thrives."

And another added: "Lovely. Fingers crossed for this wee baby."
