Adorable rescue dog can't have surgery to help him walk until he finds a home

A rescue dog who struggles to walk is ready to have surgery - but can't be given treatment until he finds a new home.

Romeo the Yorkshire terrier has Luxating Patella, a condition in which results in the kneecap dislocating or moving out of position.

The cost of Romeo's surgery has already been covered, but he can't be left alone during the six to eight week recovery time so needs to find a home before he can undergo treatment, as reported by Grimsby Live.

It's a common condition in dogs, particularly in small and miniature breeds, but it doesn't stop 'ladies man' Romeo from living his life to the fullest.

The 11-year-old is currently being cared for at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in North Lincolnshire, where he's waiting to be given a forever home so he can undergo the much-needed surgery.

A spokesperson for the rescue centre said: "[His surgery] is not booked yet and can’t be until he has been rehomed.

"He’ll have a six to eight week recovery and we need him in a home before he has it.

"So he is in limbo a bit at the moment, bless him."

Romeo needs to be cared for as he recovers in case he injures his leg and his new owners will need to be able to take him to the vets in Scunthorpe for the surgery and follow up appointments.

His profile states: "Unfortunately I am a little bit poorly. I have a condition called a Luxating Patella, which means I have a bit of difficulty walking, although that doesn't always stop me, and so I am going to be having a big operation.

"For my next home I will be asking that I have a very dedicated owner who is happy to provide all the love and care that I need.

"And don't you worry about a thing, you will absolutely know when we are friends. I will smother you with 24/7 kisses and love - so I hope you like dog kisses."
