Adorable pit bull terrier is convinced he's a cat and even sits on top of fridge

A rescue pit bull's new owners are convinced he think he's a cat.

Two-year-old Mako has a new home and is so pleased to find himself among new feline friends, he follows them around everywhere - including to the top of the fridge.

He has stunned his owners, Bethany and Samantha Castilla, by springing up onto tables and shelves to hang out with the cats.

The pup has earned social media stardom for his spritely antics.

His owners have photographed their "weird little dude" gazing down from mind-boggling heights on his quest to keep up with the cats.

According to the Daily Star, Mako, Americans Bethany and Samantha had initially wondered if their new dog they had adopted from a shelter would get along with their cats.

But they are now convinced he was raised with plenty of feline friends to play with.

Most dogs just want to get into what's in the fridge- Mako likes to sit on top of it (mako_thecatdog/Instagram)

“We initially kept the cats in a separate part of the house because we wanted to slowly introduce them to the new dog,” Bethany told Bored Panda.

"He started jumping up on the small tables we had around the house and we thought he was just super excited and full of energy."

Bethany and Samantha said it was love at first sight when they spotted him at the shelter.

“When we went to the pet shelter, Mako had looked over his shoulder and gave us direct eye contact and we just fell in love with the little guy.

“At the time, he looked like a bobblehead because his head was so much larger than his body, we just thought he was adorable.”

Mako climbs wherever the cats do - and his owners believe it's because he loves them so much he wants to hang out with them - no matter where they are.

It wasn’t until Bethany and Samantha introduced Mako to the cats that they realised he acts like them.

“They would be on the counters and he would jump up there with them," Bethany said. "He just wanted to be around them all the time.”

Mako's climbing antics have now made him a social media star, with more than 27k followers on Instagram, where he is known as 'Mako the Cat Dog' and 'Fridge Pup.'

He has an even more impressive 32k followers on TikTok.
