Adorable pet hamster heartlessly dumped at Edinburgh Waste Centre

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a hamster was abandoned at a waste centre in Edinburgh.

The Scottish animal welfare charity was called out after the hamster was found at the recycling centre on Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh at around midday on 11 August.

Luckily the hamster survived the ordeal, but the Scottish SPCA wants to find the cruel individual who dumped the pet at the site.

Scottish SPCA inspector John Toule said, “We are looking to speak to the person responsible for abandoning this animal.

“The hamster was left in a clean cage with food and water. He had no visible signs of illness or injury.

“He is now in the care of one of our animal rescue centres and appears to be in good health.

“Although we appreciate that the owner left the hamster in a public place where he would be found, this is not the correct procedure to follow if you wish to give up an animal for rehoming.

“We are keen to trace the owner and if anyone in the area recognises this hamster, we would ask they call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
