Adorable moment boy, 10, with Down's syndrome helps bin man dad on his rounds

This is the moment a little boy showed he was a real chip off the block by helping a bin lorry avoid obstacles as it reversed up a tight street.

Harry Smith, 10, gave a helping hand to council workers - including his dad - while they backed up Tennyson Crescent in Swalwell.

His dad, Keith, 49, works as a driver for Gateshead Council as part of a crew responsible for emptying trade waste bins.

Mum Laura, 37, said: "His dad works for the council and when he comes in from work Harry puts on his hi-vis vest.

"So when the lads came up the road in their bin lorry he jumped at the chance to direct them.

"Harry has got great spatial awareness and you can hear him shouting 'stop' at the lorries because he doesn't want them to hit the bins.

"I'm doing my driving test in September and we always joke that Harry will pass it before I do."

Laura says her son, who goes to Gibside School, loves to help people and can't wait to go out to work himself.

She added: "He loves going to school but he really likes the idea of going out to work to earn a living just like his dad.

"It was a very proud moment for Keith, when Harry was first diagnosed with Down's syndrome we didn't know what the future held, this was a very proud moment for both of us."
