Adorable kitten rescued from ditch near busy Wicklow road

A tiny and scared kitten was rescued recently from a ditch near a busy Wicklow road.

ISPCA Chief Inspector Conor Dowling responded to a phone call from a worried local about a cat heard crying in a ditch near Ballyremon.

When he went to investigate the call he quickly located the little kitten shivering and soaked inside a hedge.

He said: “Although the road was noisy with traffic, I heard a faint cry for help and discovered a very scared and soaked little tabby kitten. I had to act quickly in case she attempted to run”.

“It is unclear how the kitten came to be in such a perilous position, so close to the busy road. There are not a lot of houses in the vicinity and, enquiries suggest that none of the locals have kittens. Star was no more than seven weeks old and far too young to be wandering on her own. Huge thanks to the member of the public who heard her cry for help and called us”.

The kitten who is now named Star is now safe, warm and fed in a foster home while he/she waits for a home or for their owner to be located.

All cats and kittens that are adopted from the ISPCA are vaccinated, treated for parasites, neutered or spayed and cat-flap and litter-trained.

The ISPCA also offers six weeks of free pet insurance and only asks for an adoption donation of €75 to help them cover some of the animal's veterinary costs.
