Adorable Hadrian School pupils get special visit from the 'Santa Bus'

The smiles on their faces say it all.

These adorable pupils from Hadrian School in Benwell were treated to a special visit from the Stagecoach Santa Bus to get them in the festive spirit.

The event was all in support of the Sunshine Fund's Christmas Appeal which aims to change the lives of children in the North East this festive season.

The charity dedicates its time to fundraising to purchase specialist equipment for local disabled children when it can't be provided by the NHS.

These pieces of equipment can be life changing for them and their whole families but can cost thousands of pounds making it impossible for most to afford.

That's where the Sunshine Fund comes in. The team work tirelessly to raise the funds needed and the Christmas Appeal is just one of their annual drives.

Stagecoach are proud supporters of the fund and will be collecting throughout December after launching their Santa Bus.

The bus will be onsite at Grey's Monument as a part of the city centre Christmas Market from December 16 to 22.

Drivers and office staff from their Slatyford Depot will dress up as Santa, Rudolf and his elves to bring festive cheer and collect donations.

Pupils at Hadrian, a school for children with Special Educational Needs, were lucky enough to get a sneak preview on Tuesday when they met Santa and were all given a selection box.

Marian Stokle, Deputy Head Teacher of Hadrian School, said: "We are incredibly grateful to our friends at Stagecoach and The Sunshine Fund for their continued support and generosity.

"Our pupils were thrilled at the arrival of Santa and his helpers today and had a lovely time aboard the festive bus. Huge thanks also to the Committee and members of Blakelaw Club, who provided Santa with a selection box or a small gift to give to each child.

"We are very lucky to have the support of our local community who show such care and love to our pupils, not just at Christmas but throughout the year."

Siobhan Sargeant, director of the Sunshine Fund, added: "It's hard to overstate the importance of The Stagecoach Santa Bus. Its a safe space where Children and adults with a host of disabilities can come and meet Santa this festive season.

"It's free to meet Father Christmas and his Elves, making our grotto accessible to all, however your donations help us to ensure we can continue our vital work in our community.

"Last year's Santa Bus was pretty special, and this Christmas our friends at Stagecoach North East have done it again!"
