Adorable ferret abandoned at Scots pet store after owner says 'my duty is done'

An adorable ferret was abandoned on the counter of a Scots Pets at Home store after the owner said 'my duty is done'.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after the male animal, named Leeroy, was left at the store in Stathkelvin Retail Park, Bishopbriggs around 5pm on February 21.

The man is believed to have walked into the pet shop with a shoe box covered by a blue bed sheet. He placed the box in the counter said his 'duty was done' and walked out.

When staff inspected the box they found a 'very scared, but friendly, ferret'.

The man SSCPA wish to speak to (SSPCA)

The animal charity is appealing for the man to come forward.

Scottish SPCA inspector Jade Cumming said" “We are looking to speak to the man responsible for leaving this ferret in the store.

“We are very grateful to the staff at the Pets at Home store for taking excellent care of him until we were able to pick him up.

“Leeroy is now in the care of one of our animal rescue centres. Apart from a couple of fractured teeth he appears to be in good health.

“Although we appreciate that the man obviously intended for Leeroy to be cared for and we’re glad he chose to hand him into a safe place, this is not the correct procedure to follow if you wish to give up an animal for rehoming.

“We are keen to trace the man and if anyone in the area recognises this ferret or the man responsible for abandoning him we would ask they call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
