Adorable ex-racing greyhound ‘packs overnight bag’ in hopes he’ll be adopted

Bailey is a four-year-old greyhound who, after running his last race, was taken in by a Greater Manchester dog rescue in the hope of finding him a new home. The brindle coloured pooch is desperate to be adopted - and has his bags packed ready and waiting.

Currently residing at the Tyldesley-based Makants kennels, Bailey is said to be ‘more than ready’ for a home of his own, after arriving at the rescue centre on January 10, 2023.

The lovely lad recently went on a doggy day out with some of the charity’s volunteers, to get a taste of life on the outside.

Bailey headed out on a day trip to the pub with volunteers Nicola and Sharon, as well as fellow greyhound Minnie, who was previously adopted from Makants.

They said: “Bailey was an absolute delight! He walked well on lead, was curious about other dogs and was wanting to say hello to every dog we met. He was friendly with the people we met along the way and behaved impeccably at the pub too. He really is such a handsome boy with a load of love to give.”

The Wigan rescue centre shared a photo of Bailey with his overnight bag from the trip out, which racked up over 170 likes on their page - but he’s still yet to find a suitable home.

The charity added: “Bailey is a friendly, confident boy, who soon formed his own fan club at kennels. He is fine with other dogs he meets on his daily walk and has settled into life at Makants with no problems.”

Makants Greyhound Rescue is a self-funded, independent charity who rescue, rehabilitate and rehome retired and injured greyhounds who have been used for racing.

Formed in December 2013, they can have up to 21 greyhounds in their kennels at any given time, and, during their nine years of operation, have successfully rehomed over 600 ex-racing greyhounds.
