Adorable dog has spent 159 days in kennels after being given up by ill owner

One of Manchester Dogs Home's longest residents is still to find his forever home after 159 days at the shelter.

Rover, a two-year-old crossbreed that the shelter describes as ‘bouncy’, first came into their care earlier this year after his owner could no longer care for him due to ill health.

Since arriving at the centre, Rover has won over staff with his sunny disposition and playful nature, showing a love for being active and going on plenty of walks, as well as playing his favourite game of football.

Despite his positive attitude, Rover can however have a nervous side and although he has made other four-legged friends at the rescue, as well as plenty of human ones, he would be best suited to an experienced adult-only home without any other pets.

He would also benefit from ongoing training, and will need an owner who preferably has experience of owning dogs, as he will need clear boundaries setting in order to fully thrive in a home environment.

Rover’s path to adoption hasn’t always been a smooth journey; he was initially adopted out but was soon returned due to ‘no fault of his own’, according to the rescue.

For this reason Manchester Dogs Home have taken extra measures to ensure that Rover isn’t overlooked again, and uploaded a video to their Facebook page showcasing all his best attributes.

In the post the rescue said: "This bouncy boy is Rover! A two-year-old crossbreed who has come to us from a home due to the owners ill health.

"He is a friendly young lad who loves playing with footballs and basically anything he can chase! Rover is good with other dogs, but would like his own home by himself and a new family. Sadly Rover had been adopted but returned to us through no fault of his own.

"If you think you can help him, please make an appointment today."

The video, posted in early December, depicts Rover excitedly playing fetch with one of the volunteers from the rescue, before performing a variety of tricks including sitting and giving the volunteer his paw.

The video has been viewed more than 4000 times, garnering nearly 100 shares and 160 likes, with the rescue hoping that this will help Rover finally find his forever family.
