Adorable blind dog has his own guide dog and they've become best friends

This adorable blind pooch has his own guide dog, who helps him navigate, dehas become his best friend.

Amos, a staffy cross and Toby, nine, a border terrier, have been inseparable for the past year, with Toby defending Amos from other dogs and even help him find his water bowl.

Jess Martin, 27, who works in HR for the Cheshire Fire and Rescue service, adopted Amos in August last year from the rescue centre she was volunteering at.

Although initially Toby was a bit wary of Amos, he ended up loving him and protecting him – and being his only friend.

Jess has had Toby for the past nine years, as he was her 18th birthday present from her parents and she only adopted Amos last year, when he was born at the dogs' home, where she was a volunteer.

Amos was born blind, along with one of his sisters and Jess knew it would be tricky finding a home for him.

Jess said: “Toby was the best present I ever got.

“He is very independent, and he likes his own space so we were a bit concerned to see how accepting he would be of Amos.

“I thought it would be very difficult to find an owner and while Amos was on medical care for four months, we decided to foster him in February last year but after a while we realised we would never give him back.

“At the beginning Toby growled at him a few times and then ignored him- Amos came from a kennel so doesn’t know how to socialise with other dogs.

“After a couple of days, I saw that Amos couldn’t find his water bowl and Toby nudged him and helped him out.”

Jess and her partner Billy Howe, 27,a cargo agent, decided to adopt the pup in August 2018, seeing that Toby got used him and even ended up becoming his only friend.

Amos needed to have an eye operation to have his eyes removed but thankfully he had Toby who didn’t leave his side and was very protective of him.

Since then the two backpackers go on many adventures together and Amos nudges Toby every time he needs some help.

Jess added: “When we went out on walks Amos was very scared, especially of the noises and Toby quickly picked up that he needed help – so every time Amos was stopping, Toby would go and lie next to him till he would be ready.

“They have developed a nice communication between them, and they know each other’s boundaries.

“Amos’s main problem is that other dogs don’t like him when they approach him, obviously because he cannot communicate the same way, so he doesn’t have other friends.

“Amos is still a bit worried when he is outside in busy areas – that’s why we all go on adventures so he can get used to the great outdoors in a more quiet setting”

“Toby is always there to protect him – we call him his ‘bodyguard’.
