Adobe’s New Photo-Editing Tool Is Designed For The Non-Tech Savvy Content Creators Among Us

Instagram is becoming fun again. The boring, clean girl aesthetic, perfectly-curated photo dumps are easing out of our feeds, and in its place come fun posts full of creativity. We’re talking messy dumps and colourful edits reminiscent of our 2014 Tumblr days.

But there’s one key difference to exercising your creative muscle when editing pictures now in comparison to 2014: you don’t need a graphic design degree to bring the ideas in your head to life.

While editing tools used to be pretty inaccessible to us common folk (I unlocked a dark, scary version of myself whenever I attempted to master Photoshop as a teenager), a lot of them have now implemented AI to help make editing worlds easier. And while AI is a polarising conversation, there’s no denying that it can turn hours of tedious masking and layering into a few intuitive taps.

Adobe Firefly is one of those tools that makes creative edits a quick, fun process.

Unlike Adobe Photoshop, which is more of a manual photo editor, Firefly generates images, audio, video and designs from AI models including Google, Adobe, Open AI and more using simple text prompts. There are tools to help you remove unwanted background noise, expand an image, and increase the quality of low resolution photos.

Essentially, it acts as the bridge between the “messy” idea in your brain and the final post on your feed. It’s no longer about how well you can use a pen tool; it’s about how much fun you’re willing to have with your own imagination.

Adobe Firefly also works to make editing less of a chore. Since it generates images and cleans up your photo for you using text prompts, you don’t have to hone in with an eraser tool and spend hours tidying it up.

Want to give the editing platform a go? Adobe Firefly plans start from $16.49 a month, and go up to $329.99 a month, depending on how premium you want your plan to be, and how many users you need on the account. You’ll be allocated a certain amount of credits each month to go ham on your edits, and be able to explore creative ideas with Firefly Boards to get your brain ticking.

You can sign up to an Adobe Firefly plan here.
