VISAKHAPATNAM: Two school-going children committed suicide - one by consuming pesticide and the other by taking some harmful chemical substance - in two separate incidents after they were admonished by their parents. Both incidents were reported from Vizianagaram district on Tuesday.
In the first incident, which happened at Jami village under S Kota mandal, a 14-year-old-boy studying in class IX consumed some harmful chemical after his parents snatched away his mobile phone for continuously playing video games.
The boy, identified as L Simhachalam Naidu, used to constantly play games on his parents' mobile. After he refused to pay heed to their warnings, the parents took away the phone from him. Upset over this, the boy consumed a harmful chemical on Sunday night and fell unconscious. He was rushed to a hospital in Vizianagaram, but died while undergoing treatment.
In the other incident, a 14-year-old girl consumed pesticide after she was admonished by her parents for going out shopping and returning home late in the evening. The incident was reported from Ommi village, under Nellimarla mandal in Vizianagaram district. The deceased was identified as R Anjali, a class IX student.
Police said Anjali had gone out along with her cousin to purchase medicines in the evening and returned home a bit late, for which she was scolded by her parents. Though the incident happened a few days ago, the girl may have been brooding over the incident, and on Sunday night, consumed pesticide and breathed her last at a private hospital. Police have registered cases.
