A leading car insurance company based in Wales has said it will issue refunds to customers as the coronavirus lockdown forces drivers to stay home.
Car and van insurance customers of Admiral will each receive a £25 refund as fewer drivers on the roads is expected to mean fewer claims.
It will be handing out a total of £110m in refunds.
Admiral will issue the money automatically to its customers with valid car or van insurance policies of April 20, 2020.
Customers will not need to take any action and the company said it will be in contact with them over the coming weeks to explain how the payments will be received.
Refunds are expected to be credited by the end of May.
“This is an unprecedented time when people across the country are driving significantly less than before the lockdown, and we expect this to lead to a fall in the number of claims we are seeing," the company said.
"We want to give the money we would have used to pay these claims back to our loyal customers in this difficult time.
"We have also already reflected this change in driving behaviour in our pricing for customers and will continue to do so."
The move follows similar action by car insurance companies in the United States.
Allstate, the fourth biggest car insurer in America, vowed to return $600 million in total to customers.
More than a dozen other US insurers have also issued refunds and credits, amounting to up to 25% of customers' monthly premiums.
With fewer workers commuting and households refraining from non-essential trips, the companies said they expect a significant drop in accident claims.
