Admiral closes office in Cardiff after member of staff tests positive for coronavirus

Insurance giant Admiral has closed one of its offices after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The company has confirmed it closed its Ty Admiral office, located in David Street, Cardiff, for 72 hours following the diagnosis.

Staff working at the office have been sent home and cannot return until Tuesday, October 27.

The closure comes as Public Health Wales figures released on Saturday, October 24, show Cardiff remains the local authority with the highest number of cases per head with 311.8 cases per 100,000 population.

An Admiral spokesman said: "The wellbeing of our staff is of paramount importance, so we took a cautious approach to this situation.

"This means we closed our Ty Admiral office and sent everyone home for 72 hours from Friday, October 23, in order to carry out sanitisation.

"The office will re-open on Tuesday, October 27, for critical workers who are unable to work from home only.

"We have also ensured that anyone who has been in contact with the member of staff also follows the correct government procedures around self-isolating and testing."

Admiral did not say how many staff were working in the office but the 14-storey building was designed to fit 3,000 workers.

It is the second time the company has sent staff home after the discovery of a positive case.

In September, its Llansamlet office was shut for 72 hours and deep cleaned after a member of staff there tested positive.

The case in its Cardiff building comes as Public Health Wales announced a rising number of new coronavirus cases and deaths on Saturday.
