Admiral and Principality among the best large employee workplaces in the UK

Two of Wales’ biggest employers have made the top ten of the best super large firms in the UK to work for.

Motor insurance to loans venture Admiral, which employs more than 7,000 at its offices in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea, has been ranked fourth in the UK’s Best Workplaces 2022 initiative’s super large employer category - defined as having more than 1,000 staff.

Principality Building Society, which like Admiral has its HQ in Cardiff and employs just over 1,000, is ranked ninth.

This year’s super large category has ranked technology firm Salesforce first, followed by tech venture Cisco and hotels group Hilton.

To rank the various best workplace categories the company behind the initiative, Great Place to Work UK, assessed colleague survey responses alongside a submitted culture audit. They used the data insights to benchmark the effectiveness of companies’ employee value propositions against the culture their employees experience.

Milena Mondini de Focatiis, Admiral Group chief executive, said, “I’m so proud to see Admiral ranked 4th in this list as we work hard to create an inclusive workplace where all our colleagues feel they can be themselves."

Chief executive of Princiapility, Julie-Ann Haines said; " ’We’re so proud to be named as a top ten best workplace in the UK. Since the beginning of the pandemic we have placed a real emphasis on promoting health and wellbeing in what has been a difficult period.

"Now we have rejuvenate days on the eighth day of each month to allow colleagues to step away from phone calls and meetings so they can focus on things such as wellbeing, or personal development.

‘’The culture at Principality is renowned for being one that is friendly, open and inclusive and we actively encourage colleagues to be themselves at work. Our colleagues are fundamental to our success – they are passionate about doing the right thing for our members and supporting our local communities.’’

Benedict Gautrey, managing director of Great Place to Work UK said: “Even in times of agonising uncertainty, at Best Workplaces the shared mantra of ‘purpose over profit’ has stood firm.

"We’re incredibly proud to recognise the 290 companies on our list for their outstanding workplace cultures, and unwavering commitment to supporting employees so they can deliver the best strategic solutions to ever-changing business opportunities and challenges.”
