Adi dravidar welfare website to be launched soon, state informs Madras high court

MADURAI: The state government has informed the Madras high court that the adi dravidar welfare department is planning to launch a separate website containing all information related to schemes and its functions, similar to the website already launched by the tribal welfare department. The court then directed the state to launch the website expeditiously.

The state government submitted that the details of all schemes implemented by the adi dravidar and tribal welfare department were made available in the department’s official website. Application forms could also be downloaded from the website. Awareness regarding the schemes are being provided through print and visual media. With regard to the educational welfare schemes, students are sensitized through the educational institutions in which they are studying.

Taking cognizance of the submissions, a division bench of justices P N Prakash and S Ananthi closed a public interest litigation filed by S Karthik, programme coordinator with ‘The Fact’, a Madurai-based NGO.

The petitioner sought for a direction to recollect the 927 crore unused funds which was handed over by the adi dravidar and tribal welfare department to the state government and sought to utilise the same for the welfare of the scheduled castes and the scheduled tribe students to pursue higher education.
