A high-ranking Yemeni official uncovered on Tuesday the details of a security plan expected to be implemented soon in the interim capital of Aden.
The plan relies on three principle factors to guarantee security and stability and protect all vital facilities in the city.
Implemented by the Interior and the Defense Ministries, the plan will be under the direct supervision of Saudi-led Arab coalition forces.
The plan would see Aden divided into security zones that would allow the Interior Ministry and the relevant security apparatuses to control the city and monitor any destabilizing military activities.
Security forces would also impose a security belt around the city and monitor its main entrances. More than 2,000 security personnel will be deployed at vital installations and state institutions.
Yemeni Deputy Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Mohammed Salem bin Aboud al-Sharif told Asharq Al-Awsat on Tuesday that the ministry plans to protect Aden International Airport, the country’s second largest airport.
“Protection of the facility will be provided by the ministries of interior and defense under the supervision of the Arab coalition forces,” he added.
“The security plan in Aden was prepared by the Interior Ministry in coordination with the Arab coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, the sponsor of the Riyadh Agreement,” he went on to say.
Ministries public institutions and important state officials present in Aden will be protected by a unit that will be comprised of elite forces from the Southern Transitional Council and security units from the Interior Ministry, he revealed. This same joint force will protect Aden with the supervision of the coalition forces.
He said all positions controlled by the STC should be handed over to the legitimate government, under the supervision of Saudi forces.
