Ademola Lookman scored twice as England beat Costa Rica 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Under-20 World Cup for the first time since 1993.
The Everton forward, who joined the club in January from Charlton Athletic, scored a goal in each half before Randall Leal pulled a goal back for Costa Rica in the 89th minute.
Lookman was set up by Everton team-mates for both goals. For the first, he controlled a low cross from the right-back Jonjoe Kenny before scoring past Erick Pineda in the Costa Rica goal. For the second, he scored from close range following a cross from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Costa Rica thought they had equalised in the first-half, but an Ian Smith effort was ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee.
England, unbeaten having finished top of their group with wins over Argentina and the hosts South Korea and a draw against Guinea, will now face Mexico or Senegal on Monday 5 June.
Germany, meanwhile, were beaten 4-3 by Zambia in extra time after equalising thanks to two late goals. Suat Serdar scored for them in the 89th minute and substitute Jonas Arweiler added another in injury time to make it 3-3, but Shemmy Mayembe scored the winner in the 107th. Zambia will play either France or Italy.
Uruguay advanced by beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 – Nicolás De La Cruz scoring from the penalty spot in the 50th minute.
