Adele says she gave up alcohol over three months ago after becoming ‘borderline alcoholic’ in her 20s

Adele has revealed that she gave up booze three and a half months after admitting she was “borderline alcoholic” for the majority of her 20s.

However, the British hitmaker, 35, admitted she was finding her newfound sobriety “boring” as she not only cut out alcohol but also caffeine, according to MailOnline.

Speaking at her Weekends with Adele Las Vegas residency over the weekend, the Hello singer told the crowd: “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago.

“It's boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s, but I miss it so much. I cut out caffeine.”

She then quipped while talking to a fan: “So enjoy your whiskey sour. I'm very, very jealous.”

In March, Adele said that she once drank four bottles of wine before lunch during a Covid-19 lockdown.

She shared during her show at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace: "I remember when I came here in Covid, in lockdown, it was 11am and I was definitely like four bottles of wine in – like we all were.

“I said in 2020 that I wanted to put my album out.

"And we were all at home just drunk basically.”

The I Drink Wine singer previously revealed during her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had “stopped drinking” after losing her estranged father to bowel cancer and dropped seven stone after cutting out alcohol altogether.

“That’s one great way of really sort of getting to know yourself, is just drinking water and being sober as anything,” Adele said at the time.

The Grammy-winner's Las Vegas residency will continue until November and previously credited it for “bringing me back to life”.

According to The Sun, she said previously: “I feel so safe in here. My life is tiny. I don’t really leave my house and that’s by choice.

“My life used to be massive when I was younger. But it is like the bigger my career has got, the more scared and anxious I have become.

“I hang out with my dogs, my son and my boyfriend, and chat away with my housekeeper. On Friday and Saturdays, I really look forward to coming [to Vegas] and it feels like having a night out and seeing my friends. It’s brought me back to life.”
