Adele says new album is for her son and touches on divorce and self-destruction

Adele has revealed her forthcoming album is dedicated to her son Angelo.

The superstar, 33, has made her comeback to the music scene after a four-year hiatus and will release her first single - titled Easy on Me - from her new album in the coming weeks.

She has been selected as November's cover star for the British and US versions of Vogue magazine and for the first time, Adele has opened up about her seven stone weight loss and her career.

Speaking about her new album, Adele says she made it in an attempt to help her son, nine, understand her divorce from his father Simon Konecki.

The pair married in 2016 and filed for divorce in 2019, with it being finalised earlier this year.

She told the publication : "I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness. It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal."

Adele added: "My son has had a lot of questions. Really good questions, really innocent questions, that I just don’t have an answer for.” Like? "'Why can’t you still live together?'"

Elsewhere in the interview, Adele explained the music is about "self-destruction" and she wants her fans to "hear my side of the story this time".

She continued: "I feel like this album is self-destruction. Then self-reflection and then sort of self-redemption. But I feel ready. I really want people to hear my side of the story this time."

Earlier this week, the Tottenham native surprised fans by telling them that new music from her forthcoming album is to be dropped on October 15.

She broke the news with a clip of her new music video being shared on her Twitter account.

Below the post, several of Adele's fans shared their excitement at hearing her new music.

One penned: "Oh. Hello, Adele!"

A second added: "THIS IS NOT A TRAINING ADELE IS COMING."

A third and fourth joined in: "THE QUEEN OF POP IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!" and "MOMMY ILY ILY I'VE BEEN WAITING THIS EXPERIENCE ALMOST 6 YEARS... I'M CRYING AND SHAKING BECAUSE I'M HAPPY OMGG ADELEEEEE MY MOM AND I ALWAYS SUPPORTING U NO MATTER WHAT. SO HAPPY UR BACK."
