Adele remembers victims of Grenfell by taking part in anniversary tribute

Adele has taken to Instagram to acknowledge the third anniversary of the Grenfell tower tragedy.

The 32-year-old singer shared a rare Instagram post on Sunday to pay tribute to 72 people who died on June 14 2017, when a fire broke out in the 24 storey block of flats in west London.

Adele wrote: "Today, Sunday, is 3 years since #Grenfell. 72 lives will be forever in our hearts."

She then told her 37million followers that she will be taking part in a memorial on YouTube tonight with the organisation Grenfell United.

Fans will be able to see Adele on the Grenfell United's YouTube channel at 6pm this evening.

The Tottenham born star has been vocal on the tragedy in the past and in the campaign for justice.

She first visited the scene of the blaze just hours hours after it broke out to support the community.

Two weeks later, she paused her live shows at Wembley Stadium to slam the government's handling of the situation.

"One of the most intense experiences of my lives," she told the crowd. "They’re not receiving the things we think they are. It’s a f***ing mess. No information is getting through, people feel helpless. ‘No one knows what they’re doing down there, it’s chaos," Adele informed her audience.

She added: "I’m raising money for the survivors and it’s important they get money they get to control. There’s no plan for the aftermath so I’ll look after that money until they know how they want to spend it. I’ve met the people who wrote the letters and were ignored. They’re still being ignored.

"I am donating a lot of f**king money anyway but I want us to all do this together," she explained.

In December 2018 Adele also appeared in a video alongside high profile faces including Stormzy where she called on the removal of 'dangerous cladding' from buildings.

According to figures released this week, there are still hundreds of buildings still standing in the UK that have the dangerous material lining their walls.

Shadow home secretary Thangam Debbonaire said it was a 'national disgrace' that buildings with the flammable cladding are still fitted in the homes of 56,000 people.
