Adele and Simon Konecki 'tried for years' to save marriage and 'split once before'

Singer Adele has confirmed her split from her husband Simon Konecki  after three years of marriage.

However, this isn't the first time the couple, who had been together since 2011, have apparently decided to separate.

In 2014, The Sun reported that the Someone Like You singer, 30, and her partner, 45, hadn't seen each other in eight weeks , and were living apart.

Simon, CEO of charity Drop4Drop, was reportedly staying in their Brighton mansion while Adele opted to bunk at her mum’s house in south London.

While the reason for their separation was never revealed, and  their time apart was only temporary, the headlines hinted at troubled waters even just three years into their romance.

Mirror Online contacted Adele for comment.

Adele and Simon – who is 14 years her senior – share son Angelo, who they welcomed in 2012.

Their break up may have taken the world by surprise on Friday, but it is reported that, much like before, the Hello singer and her partner had been living independently for a while in the run up to their split.

"This is a very sad situation - Adele and Simon had been living separate lives for some time," a source told The Sun.

“It was well known amongst their friends that this time they simply were not going to sort it out.

“They had been trying for years but eventually you have to accept that something just isn’t going to work.”

In a short statement late on Friday night, the singer's representatives confirmed: "Adele and her partner have separated.

"They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy."
