A teenager is in an Adelaide hospital with meningococcal disease.

The 18-year-old man from metropolitan Adelaide is in a stable condition and has been identified as having the B strain.

The Department for Health and Wellbeing has identified multiple people who had contact with the man, and 25 people have been directed to receive clearance antibiotics.

SA Health said there has been six cases of invasive meningococcal disease reported in South Australia this year, including three serogroup B and three serogroup W.

There were two cases recorded at the same time last year and a total of five cases reported for all of 2020.
