A man is fighting for life in hospital after he was shot in the face in Adelaide's northern suburbs on Saturday evening.

Police said the 27-year-old victim presented at the Lyell McEwin Hospital with a gunshot wound to his face just before 7:00pm.

He was then rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating when and where the shooting occurred, but believe it happened just before 7:00pm at Munno Para West.

While the investigation into the shooting is in its early stages, police have said it was not believed to be a random incident.

Police are now seeking witnesses to the incident.

They have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or online.
