Adelaide has shivered through its coldest day of winter, despite little rain and the sun even peeking through the clouds at times.
Senior forecaster at the weather bureau Matt Collopy told ABC Radio Adelaide the mercury reached a maximum of just 11.7 degrees Celsius.
"The grey, overcast day really kept the temperature down," he said.
"[There was] just a slight shower or two showing up on the radar, mainly around the southern suburbs.
"Today's 11.7C as a maximum temperature [is] the coldest maximum temperature so far this winter."
The forecaster said it is two years since there was a colder August day, when it reached just 11.4C on August 7 in 2015.
In the Adelaide Hills, the Monday maximum at Mount Lofty reached just 6.3C.
Many parts of South Australia had a below-zero start to the day, including parts of the Riverland, south-east of the state and the Barossa Valley, north-east of Adelaide.
Parts of Yorke Peninsula also had a sub-zero start to many people's working week.
Mr Collopy said many areas, including Adelaide, could expect another cold start on Tuesday.
"We could see a little bit of frost around again in the morning," he said.
But warmer days are not too far away, with Adelaide expected to experience maximum temperatures of about 19C and 20C for Thursday and Friday.
