The lawyer for a man who abseiled out of a maximum-security prison in Adelaide says his client sustained "significant" injuries, including a broken rib, while being taken back into custody.
Jason Burdon was arrested in Adelaide's south on Wednesday night and was charged with offences including escaping lawful custody.
Mr Burdon climbed out of the Adelaide Remand Centre on Tuesday morning by using clothes tied together.
The escape prompted a police manhunt that lasted almost 36 hours and expanded across suburban Adelaide.
Police have accused Mr Burdon of trying to avoid arrest by ramming a police car.
He was later taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At a court hearing today, Mr Burdon's defence lawyer Greg Tonkin said the 33-year-old would plead guilty to the escape, but contest a charge of resisting arrest.
He said Mr Burdon suffered "significant" injuries at the hands of police, including a gash to the head that required 15 staples, as well as a broken rib and bruising.
Mr Tonkin said he had seen Mr Burdon in hospital earlier today.
"He has a number of injuries that are somewhat considerable," he said.
"His injuries were all sustained during his arrest at the hands of police."
Mr Burdon did not apply for bail at today's hearing and will face court again in January.
