Prosecutors will proceed with a manslaughter charge against a 69-year-old Adelaide carer over the death of cerebral palsy sufferer Ann Marie Smith.
Rosa Maria Maione came before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, with Magistrate Elizabeth Sheppard told a charge determination had been made and the Crown would proceed with the manslaughter allegation.
However, the court was also told that negotiations were on foot in relation to the case.
Police allege Ms Smith died of serious criminal neglect and her death was preventable.
The 54-year-old passed away in hospital in April last year from septic shock, multiple organ failure, severe pressure sores and malnourishment while under the care of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
In the period leading up to her death, Maione had worked as her carer.
On Wednesday, the Crown asked for an eight-week adjournment at such time the accused will be required to enter a plea.
The case was adjourned until June 10.
Maione remains on bail and made no comment outside court.
