Additional troops have been drafted in to support Ayrshire vaccination centres.
More than 20 army personnel will be on hand to administer booster shots as NHS Ayrshire & Arran seek to speed up their part in the national race to get 'boosted by the bells'.
Health chiefs have confirmed that six military vaccinators are already working at sites in Ayrshire, including a senior medical member of staff, who have been in their posts since September.
A further 15 troops are set to join the fight against Omicron in the coming weeks as part of the large public health programme being rolled out.
Military vaccinators will join other volunteering healthcare professionals – including nurses, dentists, GPs and retirees – who answered the call to return to work during the coronavirus pandemic.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran director of public health Lynne McNiven said: "As part of a national programme to support the vaccine rollout, short-term military assistance has been provided to assist the vaccination delivery programme across Scotland.
"Six military vaccinators are currently working in Ayrshire, including a senior medical member of staff.
"A further 15 military colleagues will be starting soon to support the acceleration of the booster vaccination programme.
"The military personnel form a vital part of our current winter vaccination programme, which has been running since September 2021 and represents the largest public health programme ever delivered by NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
"Our new military colleagues will join an established vaccination team that includes longstanding members of the Ayrshire immunisation teams, alongside other volunteering healthcare professionals, including nurses, dentists, GPs and retirees who have come back to work during the coronavirus pandemic."
