Additional holidays for North Lanarkshire secondary pupils

Secondary school pupils in North Lanarkshire will have two extra days’ holiday next term.

Council officials have confirmed that additional in-service days have been scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, June 7 and 8.

They are in response to an earlier Scottish Government announcement of “two assessment support days being available for all secondary teachers to give them extra time to engage with the alternative certification model” for pupils’ qualifications.

With the National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher exam diet having been cancelled for this year, staff are instead working to produce provisional grades for each student, using their expert judgment of each individual’s attainment.

A council spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live: “The additional inset days for secondary schools in North Lanarkshire are June 7 and 8.

“These were added in relation to the Scottish Government announcement of two inset days for secondary schools for Scottish Qualifications Authority purposes.”

June’s additional in-service days do not apply to the area's primary schools, with pupils attending classes as normal on those dates.
